🌙

Late night arrival

Trains from KIX stop around midnight. The last Haruka is around 11:30 PM. Overnight buses (夜行バス) go to major cities but book in advance. Taxis to Osaka are expensive (¥10,000–15,000) but feasible.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Family with luggage

Haruka Express has reserved seats with luggage space. Airport limousine bus goes direct to major Osaka hotels — most comfortable for families. Note: Suica does NOT work on Nankai — buy a Nankai ticket separately.

💰

Budget traveler

Nankai Limited Express (Rapi:t not required) to Namba costs ¥920 and takes 43 min. For Osaka city, this is the cheapest effective option.

🚃 IC Card (Suica / ICOCA)

Important: Suica and ICOCA work differently in Kansai. ICOCA is the local IC card and works everywhere. Suica also works on JR and Osaka Metro, but NOT on Nankai Railway. Buy a Nankai ticket separately if taking the Rapi:t.

💡 For Kyoto travelers: load ICOCA at the airport or use JR Haruka (JR Pass valid). ICOCA covers JR, Osaka Metro, and most Kansai transport.

Tips

  • KIX is on an artificial island — all transport goes over the bridge, which can back up in bad weather
  • Suica does NOT work on Nankai Railway — this surprises many Tokyo visitors who assume all Japan runs on Suica
  • For Kyoto travelers, the Haruka Express is direct and easiest — no transfer needed
  • The Rapi:t is worth it for the experience alone — iconic art-deco interior
