About
Built for the traveler who doesn't want surprises at the border.
Japan is one of the most rewarding countries to visit — and one of the most procedurally strict. landinjp exists to make sure you arrive prepared.
Why this site exists
Japan's entry process involves multiple government systems — Visit Japan Web, customs declarations, airport kiosks — each with their own rules and timing requirements. Official documentation is scattered across Ministry websites in dense bureaucratic language.
Every year, tourists are stopped at customs because of something they could have easily avoided with 10 minutes of preparation: a box of cold medicine, a forgotten declaration, the wrong transport choice at the airport.
landinjp consolidates everything into a single, time-ordered checklist — from booking your trip to your first meal in Japan. Nothing is left to chance.
How we work
🔍
Primary sources only
Every rule on this site is traced to an official Japanese government source — Japan Customs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Visit Japan Web, or MHLW. We link directly so you can verify.
📅
Actively maintained
Japan's entry rules changed repeatedly in recent years. We monitor official sources for changes and update the site promptly. Each page shows a "Last verified" date.
🎯
No unnecessary filler
Every task has a reason. If something is on the checklist, it matters. If it's optional, we say so. We don't pad content to rank higher in search.
How we make money
landinjp is free to use and always will be. Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you purchase a product or service through them (like an eSIM, travel insurance, or JR Pass), we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate links are always clearly labeled with (affiliate) next to the button. We only recommend services we would genuinely use. Affiliate relationships do not influence editorial content — if something is prohibited in Japan, we say so regardless of whether a sponsor sells it.
Currently affiliated with: Airalo (eSIM), Klook (JR Pass), SafetyWing (travel insurance), Wise (money transfers), Welcome Pickups (airport transfers), and Booking.com (accommodation).
